Preparing Your Window Air Conditioning Unit for the Summer
in window AC unit

Remember to turn off and unplug any appliance before beginning any repair or maintenance work.

If you clean any parts, like a reusable filter, wait for all parts to fully dry before you replace them and reassemble the appliance

Replace or clean the air filter
If your unit comes with a reusable filter, remove it and clean it using a filter cleaner.

Clean the Coils
The evaporator and condenser coils help transfer and radiate heat away from the unit and your room. Clean coils help the unit to run more efficiently. Remove the front cover and the outer casing of the unit to reach and clean both sets of coils. Using a coil brush or compressed air, gently clean the coils. Use a vacuum to suck up any dirt, bugs, or dead leaves from inside the unit.

Prevent bad smelling air.
The constant cycle of heating and cooling can build up moisture inside the unit, leading to the growth of bacteria, fungi, and mold, which has the potential to cause illness. Cleaning the inside of the unit will prevent the cool air being produced from smelling bad and being potentially harmful.

Straighten and clean your fins
The metal like slots on the back of your Air Conditioner are called “fins” and they help heat dissipate. Bent fins trap the heat inside your Air Conditioner, making it less efficient. Use an AC fin comb to quickly straighten bent fins.

Check the drain exhaust or drain tray of your machine.
Clean out the drain tray and run a wire through the drain exhaust to clear on blockages.

Replace any broken or worn out parts
Damaged AC parts such as knobs, grills, and cords should be replaced. Worn out installation parts like sealer strips, support brackets and mounting equipment should be replaced as well.
