Why won't my vent light dim?

When the vent light is on a low setting, the current travels through a diode which reduces the voltage by about half which lowers the level of lighting. Sometimes this diode goes bad and needs to be replaced. Some range vent hoods have a dimmer switch that let you adjust the light. If it doesn't work, you need to replace it.
